Actor Will Smith is not only a household name, but one of the most famous Philadelphians working in entertainment today.

Throughout his decades-long career, Smith has been in the spotlight since the ‘90s.

The actor’s leading role on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air propelled him to wider stardom and attention from the public eye, but Smith had already made a name for himself as a rapper before the series.

Making music with close friend DJ Jazzy Jeff — another Philly native — the duo known as DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince first released music in the mid ‘80s.

The duo hardly needs an introduction, having released a number of popular tracks throughout their career. The two originally met at a Philly house party.

Now, Smith has embarked on a book tour to promote the memoir, titled Will.

Smith’s book tour began in his hometown. Going from Philadelphia, Smith traveled to New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles thereafter.

The actor has brought on a number of guest stars and speakers on the tour including Queen Latifah, and Spike Lee who convened with Smith in Brooklyn.

Last Monday, Nov. 8, Smith spoke at The Met Philadelphia, and spoke of his own journey from a West Philly kid making music and up until today.

The actor spoke on his upbringing, attending local schools Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School and Overbrook High School. The event was also hosted by Queen Latifa.

Footage from Smith’s Philadelphia stop is available now until midnight on Nov. 15, 2021.

Smith’s tour traveled to Brooklyn and Chicago, with an appearance taking place Nov. 15 in Hollywood. Smith will travel to London after to take his book global.

As was the case with his Brooklyn appearance, Smith offered a collage of performances, storytelling, and a sit-down conversation.

In his memoir, Smith dives into family matters relating to his children, parents, and his spotlighted relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith.

Smith also discusses the anger he felt after witnessing his father commit spousal abuse against his mother.

Through Will, Smith is seeking to offer lessons through the anecdotes and life stories he shares, elaborating on the lessons he’s learned and his desire to give back.
