ComEd has officially named Gil C. Quinones as its new chief executive officer.

The announcement comes less than two weeks after Exelon Corp. — ComEd’s parent company — announced changes to its executive leadership staff. 

The changes included Joseph Dominguez’s promotion as CEO of Exelon Generation and incoming CEO of Constellation. Quinones will succeed Dominguez in his former role as CEO of ComEd.

Quinones is a proven industry executive with more than 30 years of leadership and operational experience that extends across regulated utility markets, the public and private sectors, and state and local governments. 

“It’s an honor to be named CEO of ComEd, and I look forward to working closely with Calvin [Butler, CEO of Exelon Utilities] and the entire utility management team to lead this nationally recognized energy company,” Quiniones said in a press release. 

“I share ComEd’s vision for a clean and resilient energy future that benefits customers and communities across northern Illinois and commit to continuing ComEd’s legacy of local partnership with and investment in the communities it is privileged to serve,” he added. 

Prior to this new role, Quinones served the past decade as president and CEO of the New York Power Authority (NYPA), the nation’s largest state-owned public power organization. 

Throughout his career, he has been internationally recognized as a leader in modernizing power grids, and delivering clean, safe and affordable energy for customers, leading to economic and environmental benefits for diverse communities. 

Butler detailed that Quinones’ “proven ability to deliver world-class performance for customers and strengthen and uplift communities, including in urban areas,” makes him the best suited person to take on the role of CEO of ComEd.

“We are confident that, under his leadership, ComEd will continue to be recognized as one of the cleanest, most reliable and most affordable utilities in America,” he continued.

Quinones has also served as COO and executive vice president of energy marketing and corporate affairs for NYPA, spent four years at the New York City Economic Development Corporation, serving as senior vice president and principal energy advisor to Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and also worked 13 years at the Consolidated Edison Company of New York.

Quinones will officially begin his new post on Monday, Nov. 15, 2021.
