In a packed public forum held at Arch Street Methodist Church, just north of City Hall, six candidates for district attorney stood on stage pleaing for the public’s approval.

Hosted by WURD radio,  candidates Michael Untermeyer, Judge Teresa Carr Deni, Tariq El-Shabazz, Larry Krasner, Joe Khan, and Jack O’Neill participated in a local panel to discuss their views and how they will impact the Philadelphia community.

With each one hoping to get the support of the crowd that seemed to lean to the left, the clear crowd favorite was Larry Krasner who often was met with applause for each one of his answers.

Touching on everything from stop-and-frisk to Immigrations and Customs enforcement in courtrooms, forum addressed some of the more pertinent issues affecting black and latino communities in the city, including cash bail and juvenile prosecution practices.

With simultaneous translation for multiple languages and childcare provided, the forum truly aimed to be one that allowed the public to interact with the candidates they would be voting for in the May primaries.

“It aims to truly be ‘a People’s Forum,’ with an open mic for audience members provided at the end, and questions chosen by the coalition, which includes mass incarceration-focused organizations, immigration groups, low wage community organizations, faith groups, and local and national civil rights organizations,” said a statement from the organizers.
