Everyday the men and women of the Philadelphia Fire department risk their lives by running into burning buildings and protecting the communities they serve. The Firemen's Hall Museum describes the history of firefighting in Philadelphia through its collections of artifacts and archives, while promoting fire prevention and safety.  It is housed in a 1902 firehouse in Old City, which is a short distance from Elfreth’s Alley.

The museum is open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays and extended hours of the first Friday of every month. AL DIA News was given the opportunity to walk through the history of the Philadelphia Fire Department started by Benjamin Franklin in 1731.
