The Puerto Rican's musical swagger took the urban genre to an international level.

In 2004, "Gasolina" was released off his album Barrio Fino, and it took his career to new heights.

Although he was proving himself as an artist of the underground reggaeton scene, he was also "busy preparing his next big move," according to Rolling Stone. He released the hit he had prepared, and it's now the defining song of the genre.

"With his producer Luny Tunes, he led an explosive, fast-paced hit that took the genre to the rest of the world. The song shed some light on what had been brewing in places like Panama and Puerto Rico, and officially announced that reggaeton was a worldwide phenomenon that was here to stay," added Rolling Stone about the Latin singer's contribution.

"Gasolina" won the top prize among 100 songs, coming in first place followed by Puerto Rican Ivy Queen with "Quiero bailar" (2003) in second place and Tego Calderón's "Pa' Que Retozen" (2003) in third.
