Sergio Mendes died at the age of 83 in Los Angeles, California, his family informed the Brazilian newspaper 'O Globo'. The cause of death is not yet known, however, the artist had been facing respiratory problems for months. 

Mendes, known worldwide for his unique style that fused bossa nova with jazz and pop, was a cultural ambassador who took the sounds of Brazil to every corner of the planet.

Inspired by artists such as João Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim, Mendes took the smooth rhythms of bossa nova and combined them with jazz, creating a fusion that was widely received in the United States and Europe.
