Even in his wildest dreams, Sergio Vallín would not have imagined what he achieved. When he was a child, just seven years old, he was fascinated listening to the Beatles from the window of his neighbor. At that moment, he knew it: “I want to do this with my life. I want to make songs, I want to play." His success and talent, probed over decades with the Mexican rock band Maná, have earned him the best recognition: a Gibson signature guitar.

It is a beautiful limited edition of the Gibson Les Paul Gold Top, adapted to the technical needs of the guitarist. “I had my first Les Paul when I was older, already with Maná, and I remember that when I had it for the first time in my hands, I began to play things that I had never played before, that is the magic of an instrument. And I fell in love, I fell in love with the sound. When an instrument speaks to you, it is like a divine connection”, he expressed after receiving the precious instrument.

For three years, he worked closely with the Gibson team to take care of every aspect of the instrument. He added a new p90, a Custombucker, a Bigsby... and tons of love. "It's a guitar that speaks Spanish and that everyone understands," he told to a close friend.

Many years ago, he had the opportunity to see and listen to Mr. Les Paul in New York, and now he confesses that "continuing with his name for the new generations in the Latin world is something wonderful for me”.

The instrument is inspired by a Les Paul that Vallín has from the year 55, with which he fell deeply in love since he bought it. The Gibson team built on that model to now develop their own limited edition.

 

“Something very important is that it is a very light guitar, we took care of that from the beginning. It is very comfortable, versatile, when you have to put it in danger, it responds to you, and when you have to do it gently, it also does so”, he commented. And he continued: “it is an extension of my soul, of my hands, of my arms. I feel very grateful to God, to music, for giving me a Les Paul with my name on it.”

Maná’s guitarist became the first Latin artist to own a Les Paul Goldtop named in his honor. The guitar went on sale this Tuesday, and thanks to the meticulous work of the luthiers, it looks like an instrument that is more than fifty years old. The golden yellow tint, the bridge and the finishes are faithful to the original model that Vallín loves so much.

The Latin guitar player joins the list of more than 20 artists who have a Gibson with his name, including Jimmy Page, Peter Frampton, Elvis Presley or Johnny Cash.

Vallín, who released his solo album “Microsinfonías” in 2021, is grateful to return to the stage with his own guitar. After the expected return of Maná, he confessed that “I feel alive. It was a necessity to live the human connection with the public”.
