Amazon Prime Video announced an adaptation of the book Noticia de un Secuestro by Colombian Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García Márquez at a recent launch event for its new productions. The story recounts the terrible experiences of four women kidnapped by the narcos of the time and the extraordinary efforts of their loved ones to free them.

"Our goal at Prime Video is to show the world the power and beauty of Colombian stories," said Javiera Balmaceda, director of local originals at Amazon Studios for Latin America, Canada and Australia.

This suspenseful story is directed by Andrés Wood and features four Colombian actresses playing the kidnapping victims — Majida Issa (Diana Turbay), Cristina Umaña (Maruja Pachón), Carmenza Gómez (Marina Montoya) and Julieth Restrepo (Beatriz Villamizar).

"On a personal level it is a huge challenge to play a woman like Diana Turbay, who represents so many things in this country, she represents serious journalism, justice, dialogue, this important issue for our country and having the ability to dialogue with the enemy, dialogue with the one who is taking away our peace, it is also a huge challenge for me because her family was going to be watching and it seemed fair to make a worthy tribute," said Issa in a local media interview.

One Hundred Years of Solitude on Netflix

The television series One Hundred Years of Solitude, based on Gabo's most famous novel, will also hit the small screen on Netflix.

Starting on June 23, a production company has begun the search for actors in the Colombian Caribbean who can play the characters of the 'magical world' of Macondo.

Those responsible for the series are visiting different towns in northern Colombia to identify those who can represent the physical and psychological characteristics of the inhabitants of Macondo, including the more than 30 members of the seven generations of the Buendía family.

Due to legal agreements between Netflix and the Colombian production company Dynamo, those in charge of selecting the actors cannot give statements to the media, which is why little is known about the audition process.
