The inauguration ceremony of the new president of Colombia will take place this Sunday, Aug. 7, in Bogota.

Here are the members of the U.S. presidential delegation:

Gregory Meeks, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Francisco L. Palmieri, Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá.

Desirée Cormier Smith, Special Representative for Racial Equity and Justice, Department of State.

Juan Gonzalez, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Western Hemisphere Affairs, National Security Council.

The inauguration of President-elect Gustavo Petro will take place early Sunday at the Plaza de Bolivar, located in the center of the capital. It is expected that the Colombian and international media will cover the event from early in the morning.

The change of command will begin at 10:00 a.m. (local time), but Petro's inauguration will begin at 3 p.m. (local time) and access will be restricted.

The event is expected to attract 100,000 people, 70 cultural acts, 1,000 artists on stage, activities on six stages and a cultural corridor. It is the first time that a presidential inauguration in Colombia has a cultural dimension. Petro is the first leftist president in the South American country's history.

Petro and Francia Márquez received the titles of president-elect and vice president-elect a few weeks ago from Colombia's National Electoral Council.
