Pennsylvania's major cities have become the political battleground for both Republicans and Democrats.

So explained The New York Times in recounting the importance that this "swing" state has acquired in the race for the presidency.

“When Vice President Kamala Harris rolled out her economic agenda, she went to Pittsburgh. When she unveiled her running mate, she went to Philadelphia. And when she had to pick a place for Barack Obama’s first fall rally this Thursday, it was back to Pittsburgh. Former President Donald J. Trump has earmarked the greatest share of his advertising budget for Pennsylvania and has held more rallies in the state than in any other battleground since Ms. Harris joined the race — including two on Wednesday and three in the last week,” explains the newspaper in an article titled "Inside the Battle for America’s Most Consequential Battleground State," signed by Shane Goldmacher.

The reasons for this trend are clear. Pennsylvania has 19 electoral votes, which makes it a key state when it comes to counting at the polls, since the magic number to win the presidency of the republic is 270 electoral votes nationwide.

"If we win Pennsylvania, we win the whole thing", said former President Trump during one of his rallies, recalls the daily.

On the Kamala Harris campaign side, the story is the same. This is demonstrated by the large amount of resources and money they have spent on making a presence in this area of the country.

The swing states are definitive in every electoral process. They define the results in an increasingly polarized country, in which there are definitely Democratic areas and definitely Republican areas that are not going to change under the current circumstances.

This 2024 campaign has been very particular and almost unique in the history of the United States. While Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, has suffered two assassination attempts, the Democrats had to change their candidate, incumbent Joe Biden, when he performed poorly in the first public debate, something that had not happened in recent history.

Still, the scales are not yet tipping in favor of either candidate as they continue to push their campaigns to do their best in the final stretch.

The elections will be held on November 5. Only then will Americans say at the polls who they want to lead the destinies of the most powerful nation in the world for the next 4 years.
