Cartagena is a city full of colors, characters and above all, lots of flavor. Every corner of the city is full of movement and tradition, which is reflected even in the typical dishes of 'La Fantástica.' 

Caribbean gastronomy in Cartagena ranges from African flavors and European mixtures brought by the Spanish during the colonial period. Fish, seafood, rice and fruits typical of the region usually characterize the dishes found in its streets. 

One of the most typical places to eat these delicacies is the Bazurto Market, located in the true economic center of the city. It's a space at first glance that may seem chaotic, but houses the heart of the people of Cartagena. In Bazurto, locals and visitors can buy everything from clothing to home decor at the lowest prices. The cultural epicenter of the city also houses the matrons of gastronomy. 

Entering through the narrow corridors of the market, one arrives at an improvised food court with wooden tables and plastic chairs, surrounded by huge pots with the widest variety of food. 

Fried mojarra with yucca, shrimp rice, lobster, posta cartagenera, bean rice, coconut rice and even paella are some of the delicacies you can find. 

The food is served on typical pewter plates and the juice, which is usually panela water with lemon, is brought to the tables in improvised glasses made from glass jars that were once used for coffee. 

Unlike the big restaurants that serve typical Cartagena food, the Bazurto Market provides its visitors with a truly colorful experience, with little shops made of wood, its matrons wearing printed aprons and an atmosphere where the best champeta and vallenato hits resound. 

Going to the Bazurto Market is by itself an experience not made for everyone, but eating there goes beyond and becomes an unforgettable adventure incomparable with any other city in the world. For those who travel to Cartagena even once, it is an unrepeatable experience.
