The figure of the mother, "mamá", has a special importance for Latinos. NBC News has compelled the best seven books by Latino authors that explore the issue of Mothers and their relation with them.

Reading about Latino mum can be a good way to better understand how Latino women are.

Included in the selection of books are:  Esmeralda Santiago, "Las Mamis", Pat Mora "Love to Mamá: A Tribute to Mothers" and Sonia Nazario's  "Enrique's Journey: The Story of a Boy's Dangerous Odyssey to Reunite with His Mother" ( Random House, 2007).

With these series of essays published in the L.A Times,  journalist Nazario won the Pulitzer prize. The book is based on an Honduran kid that travels to North Carolina to meet his mother, an immigrant, that he hasn't seen since he is 6.

As reported in NBC.
