"This is a significant day for all at Fox News, Bill has played a huge role in building Fox News to its present position as the nation's biggest and most important cable channel in the history of the industry. His contribution to our channel and our country will resonate for many years", says Murdoch's statement.

Shine has been part of the network since it’s founding in 1996 and was the right hand of former director Roger Ailes - who resigned after the lawsuit filed by Gretchen Carlson on July 6, 2016 for sexual harassment.

Following Ailes' departure, Shine became co-chairman of the network, and he was charged not only with a load of new responsibilities but also with the questioning of his unremitting efforts to cover the demands of sexual harassment against his co-workers.

"No one has accused Shine of sexual harassment," says CNN, "but some former employees have accused him of covering the alleged misconduct of others."

The media has reported that Shine's name has been mentioned in at least four lawsuits related to harassment or sex discrimination against the FOX network.

Suzanne Scott, the network’s new “programming president”, will take part of Shine’s responsibility.

Many have criticized Murdoch's gradual strategy, asserting that sometimes "it's better to clean the house in one go."
