The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony has brought together hundreds of people for more than 90 years, and 2022 was no exception. Even with the rainy and cold weather surrounding New York City, people flocked to the iconic center for the ceremony.

The event was broadcast on television and featured performances by Alicia Keys, Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton, Andrea Bocelli and the Rockettes, the famous dancers from the Radio City Christmas Show, reported Impacto Latino

"It's officially Christmas in New York 🎄❤️," the Rockettes wrote in a post shared on Instagram next to Rockefeller Center.

This year's tree of choice was a Norwegian fir tree standing more than 25 meters tall and weighing 14 tons, which was flown in from Queensbury. It was adorned with more than 50,000 multicolored, energy-efficient LED lights strung on eight kilometers of wire and crowned by a large star with Swarovski crystals designed by architect Daniel Libeskind.

This year marks the 19th year that a Swarovski star has topped the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. The current star, which debuted in 2018, is made up of 70 spikes covered in 3 million crystals, is nearly 9 ½ feet in diameter and weighs 900 pounds, New York Amsterdam News cited.

The tree will be lit after sunset and until midnight on all days of the holiday season. New York City authorities have announced that they will close road traffic in the surrounding area to coincide with those hours.
