El Cielo, located in Washington D.C. and developed by Colombian chef Juan Manuel Barrientos has made history once again after retaining a Michelin star and being included in the 2022 edition of the prestigious French guide.

In 2021, the restaurant made history by obtaining the first star for a Colombian restaurant abroad.

For the 2022 gala, Chef Barrientos and his restaurant were in charge of preparing seven entrees at the French ambassador's house in D.C. In the process, El Cielo continues to put Colombian cuisine on the highest of world stages.

El Cielo is a restaurant of modern and signature Colombian cuisine, based on neuroscience applied to local products serving tasting menus that create sensory and culinary experiences that stimulate the senses, always having Colombia as the star.

"It is an honor to continue representing Colombia and Latin culture, as there are more than 40 million Latin Americans living in the United States, and we are few who have achieved the highest distinction in the world of gastronomy, which are the stars within the prestigious Michelin guide. What we achieved with El Cielo D.C. was to raise the Colombian flag high in a city as grandiose as Washington D.C., which welcomes all the cultures of the world," said Chef Barrientos.

The Colombian also added that they were the "first to put the name of Colombia on the map of the Michelin guide, the first restaurant with Colombian food and brand, with Colombian owner and staff worldwide to be awarded this great distinction. On behalf of my team we are truly honored to receive this recognition again."

This restaurant is part of El Cielo Hospitality Group, a Colombian restaurant and hotel company founded by Barrientos 14 years ago, with locations in Medellín, Bogotá, Miami and Washington D.C.
