In an apathetic game from the five-time World Cup winners, Cameroon scored in the final minutes to win, but it still wasn’t enough to see them through to the knockout stage of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Brazil decided to use the reserve team as it had already advanced to the round of 16 — in order to avoid injuries and unnecessary yellow cards. The team was intense and created opportunities, especially in the second half, but missed many chances. 

Cameroon, on the other hand, didn’t miss the few it had. 

Martinelli and Anthony were the best from Brazil, and are definitely options for Tite in the next phase. Aboubakar was the Cameroon star — as it had been in the African Cup of Nations and in its game against Serbia. 

With the win, Cameroon became the first African team to beat Brazil in a World Cup, according to the New York Times. 

Despite losing, Brazil still qualified as the first in the group. In the other late game in Qatar, Switzerland beat Serbia, 3-2, and guaranteed the group’s second place finish and a spot in the knockout round.

Brazil will now play South Korea, on Monday; while Switzerland will have a difficult challenge against Portugal, on Tuesday.
